I recently wrote up a 3-part “Injury Prevention” series for the folks over at FightCampConditioning.Com. Their site is a great resource for coaches and athletes looking to get results and improve their overall performance.

When being proactive and trying to keep athletes injury-free, I like to target three main areas of the body:

1. Shoulders & Thoracic Spine

2. Hips & Glutes

3. Feet and Ankles

This first write up discusses the shoulder, the importance of screens, as well as a couple videos showing some great mobility and stability drills you can incorporate into your programming.

Regardless of the client, a primary goal is to keep them pain and injury free. Whether it’s my young athlete, my business executive, or my pro MMA fighter, injury prevention is always included during our goal-setting discussions. This objective was paramount during the filming of ‘The Ultimate Fighter Live’ TV show that I was on last year. Due to the nature of the show, we never knew which athlete would be fighting later that week so we had to do our best to keep them in top, physical shape throughout the entire series.
